Hey HideOut Fam! Please get to know your August Member Spotlight a bit better.....STEVE CARR!!
Steve has been with us for about 6 months now. You can find him at the 5am class, with a big smile, always encouraging and an immense pleasure to be around. Steve, thank you so much for being a part of this community. We could not be more stoked to have you. THANK YOU!
DO YOU HAVE ANY NICKNAMES?
Scuba Steve, Steve-O, Carr Man
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Blackwood, but have lived in West Deptford for over 14 years
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR FAMILY!
I have a beautiful wife named Lindsay who is killing it at Boot Camp, and two great kids. A daughter Emerson who is 4 and a son Caden who is 1. Oh, and a 2-year-old Rottweiler name Knox who drives us nuts. Who could ask for more?
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT?
Not long enough! Started beginning of February, so about 6 months. Started 3X a week and ended up staring at the WOD on my phone from my bed every night, not wanting to miss the next workout. SO the next day I signed up for unlimited and never looked back.
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO CROSSFIT HIDEOUT?
Norm! After 2 years of listening to her tell me how great it was I had to check it out (I also had to build up the will to get up at 4:30 every morning). She also raved about how great the runs were.
WHAT CLASSES DO YOU USUALLY ATTEND?
I am lucky enough to be part of the elite 5 A.M. crew. Nothing better than finishing an intense, sweat dripping workout first thing in the morning to start your day right (and seeing the next class walking in).
WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF CROSSFIT?
I just moved to a new place, so most of my time is dedicated to working on the house. Other than that, I really enjoy spending time with my family, going to concerts (all types of music) football games, and snowboarding.
WHAT IS ONE THING WE MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU?
When I was a kid I loved doing magic. I used to put on shows for the neighborhood and even got one paying gig (I think my Dad bribed them). I still have some of the tricks and can’t wait to show my kids once they get a little older.
WHAT IS YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL?
A liger. It’s like a lion and a tiger mixed...bred for its skills in magic.
HOW MUCH DO YOU LOVE DANA'S QUOTES OF THE DAY?!
I think you know the answer to this one, Dana. One of my favorite quotes is- “When a door closes, just open it. It’s a door that’s what they do.”
Some quotes are inspirational, others comical, most are simply truthful.
IF YOU COULD PLAN YOUR DREAM VACATION, WHERE WOULD YOU GO ANY WHY?
Is this question intended with or without kids?
Without kids- Italy. Was there once for a wedding and simply loved it. The fresh food, culture, wine, and sights really transport you to another time.
With kids-Somewhere with a pool, unlimited hot dogs/macaroni and cheese, and a TV that streams Wiggles and TMNT 24/7. That, and a stocked bar.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEAL?
Pizza. I could eat it every day and never get tired of it. I am going to have it for dinner tonight now that I am thinking about it.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CROSSFIT MOVEMENT?
Love to row.
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT IN CROSSFIT SO FAR?
My (1) muscle up. Once I saw Abby break out the phone for video, there was no way I was gonna mess it up. I got a burst of energy like when bystanders lift cars off people (minus the crushed person). But haven’t done one since….tear.
WHAT IS ONE SHORT TERM GOAL & LONG TERM GOAL? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO CRUSH THOSE GOALS?
Short term is to learn the proper techniques and forms for the moves that we do. I was never a back squat/thruster/dead lift kinda guy, so to properly learn how to do those moves is important to me. Long term goal is increasing my shoulder strength (in general) and at some point, be able to kick some tail on the handstand pushups and walk on my hands without falling on my face.
Crushing those goals equates to my alarm every morning going off at 4:25 AM, and me rising with it (Monday-Friday that is). Trusting in our coaches and following their guidance and direction, knowing that the results will show. They already have started to for me.
WHAT MOTIVATES AND INSPIRES YOU?
Biggest piece is by far my family. Everything from wanting my children to see the importance of staying healthy, to not wanting to throw my back out when I pick one of them up!
Secondly is the members of Crossfit Hideout. Accountability is big for me and knowing that there are others there to support and push me (and call me out when I miss a session-Paul) keeps me coming back for more.
WHAT IS ONE TIP YOU WOULD GIVE SOMEONE NEW TO CROSSFIT HIDEOUT?
The only person judging you at Crossfit Hideout is you. Everyone else is there to see you excel. Period.
