Meet Candell Maxie
Before starting CrossFit, I had never lifted a weight in my life. I grew up playing sports throughout my high school career, but I knew nothing about strength and conditioning. It was not until the summer of 2013, I stepped out of my comfort zone and took my first CrossFit class with the amazing Abby Graham as my coach.
I thought I was in pretty good shape prior to that class, but the way I felt afterwards led me to believe differently. I wanted to die, but I was determined to go back and take on the challenge. I love to work and train hard so I knew CrossFit was for me. When I first started, I couldn’t even do a pull-up. I had to use several bands to help me get my chin over the bar. Today, I can do 17 unbroken skipping pull-ups.
I joined HideOut in 2015. From the moment I walked in, I could feel the positive energy between the coaches and members. The community was something magical, and I knew I wanted to be a part of it. With the love and support of Abby, I completed my CF-L1 in June 2018. Coaching has given me a way to share my passion and positivity with others. I love when I can see the potential in a person that they might not see themselves. Giving people a second chance at becoming a healthier version of themselves, both mentally and physically, is something that I love and will continue to do for as long as I am able to.
You could say I have a passion for people. I am a Pre-Kindergarten teacher in the Paulsboro school district. Through my work as an educator, I understand the importance of living a strong, healthy lifestyle. I have a thorough understanding of fitness for all life stages and encourage a community of fit, healthy, and strong individuals.
